35 mm film.

So, a lot of the images didn't even come out, and the ones that did are grainy and underexposed and overexposed and just plain COOL. i love love love them.
I had to scan them in, obviously, and I haven't done them all.

has she been out at all today?

puzzle pieces on the ground

pin-hole photography.

If you don't really know what that is and think these just look like black blobs then I don't really blame you.
Basically I made a camera out of a matchbox, (cute!) and then you put a tiny piece of phot paper inside it, and any light that gets through the pin-hole is printed onto it?
and it's all about exposure times and involves a lot of counting seconds and doing a million tests to get the right exposure in the right place. it's actually super super clever, I'm not explaining it right.
None of mine came out brilliant, but you can kindof see a corridor in some? and a tree? no?

Guess I'm not going to be a photographer then! Give me digital !
What my camera looked like! You have to block out all of the light so that the only light coming through is through the pinhole.

I'd never forget you.

i love it but it scares me.

my mummy went all the way to somewhere past london to pick up this beautiful wooden cupboard. She says it's not all that old but it gives me the creeps and i think it might've seen something bad.

Monsters in Real Places

Is a pretty neat blog I found, that illustrators can make a picture of, guess what, a monster put into a real photo and they publish them. Some of them are pretty great or funny and just clever, so I'm a bit of a novice but thought it'd be fun to give it a go :)
http://monstersinrealplaces.blogspot.com/

At the moment they have a Winter Olympics theme so I chose my favourite mascot (Quatchi!) and drew him, scanned him in, coloured him in, and put him in a photo!

Meet the band

Thanking about doing a short drawn animation of a band, and these are some related scribbles .

Another drawing I did while I was in Cardiff.. Wish I could say it was a life drawing of one of her uber fit flatmates or something but no.. he's a catalogue boy.

i ♥ cardiff.

it's been a lot harder and not as much fun as i thought, trying to get something that is a really good photo and links into the words. but i'm not getting marked on it so i don't want to worry too much, and i can't wait to get them all developed now!
might just always have use a disposable camera from now on, retroo :)

Off With Their Heads.

500 and something stills go into making this 49 second animation.
it took roughly 4 hours? but with quite a lot of messing around involved.
and the song is now permanently stuck in everyone's head, but because no one really knows it but me, i hear a lot of variations of the tune and rhythm :) and we never get past the first 50 seconds !

anyway, i've still got a lot of work to do on this, and am going to have to remake all the characters cos they're so squashed and deformed from me prodding them around, but i'm pretty proud of it for my first animation !

I've become obsessed with animation. seriously. i love it. i love love love everything about it.
go see youth in revolt, it's michael cera, it's funny, and even better it has three parts where it goes into animation, which is just brilliant and bizarre and so well done.

We have visiting lecturers on wednesday at college, usually optional, but nearly always amazing, and this week we had Nigel Davies. from. aardman. if you don't know what that is then it's not so brilliant i guess, but aardman are the animation company that do wallace and gromit. and chicken run.
enough said.

they do a ton of adverts too, like the british gas ones at the moment? fantastic.

It was the best lecture I've ever been to, he showed clips of their commercials, their short films, and more importantly the awesome amount of work that goes into creating any of them. i'm just so excited and inspired and wow wow wow wow.

anyway, the picture and link have nothing to do with aardman, just a really funny guy that makes funny animations, please go to his site and watch a few, be careful though, they're so brilliant and funny that will find yourself wanting to watch them ALL. you were warned.
